The company, today AK Steel GmbH, was founded 1927 as Armco Eisen GmbH in Cologne.

In fall 1999 our parent company Armco Inc. merged with AK Steel, Middletown, Ohio, one of the leading US producers of steel mill products for the automotive, household appliances, and construction industry.

It was through this merger that the name Armco was changed to AK Steel GmbH in April 2000.

AK Steel is market leader in the USA for Electrical Steels, Stainless Chromium sheets, and Stainless Aluminum coated sheets especially for exhaust systems in the Automotive industry.
